Kirsten trained for three years at the School of Five Element Acupuncture (SOFEA) in London, UK, under the guidance of Nora Franglen, who learnt the tradition directly from Prof. J.R. Worsley. As a qualification she obtained a Lic.Ac. degree. The course comprised 3600 hours of study including Acupuncture, Western medical sciences and a one-year clinical Acupuncture training.

Since graduating Kirsten has attended numerous continuing professional development courses with a focus on Worsley Acupuncture™ (with Dr. Judy Becker Worsley), Fertility and Pregnancy (with Zita West) as well as Paediatric Acupuncture (with Julian Scott).

Specifically, Kirsten was invited to become a founding member of the Zita West UK national Network for Reproductive Health in 2009 and was a member thereof until her departure for Malaysia in 2011.

Kirsten was a practitioner participant in the CACTUS Research study, which researched the effects of Classical Five Element Acupuncture treatment on patients with medically unexplained physical symptoms, treating UK National Health Service patients within a General Medical Practitioner clinic. The study was funded by the Kings Fund and conducted by Peninsula Medical School Exeter together wit the London Institute of Five Element Acupuncture (LIFEA).

Before becoming an Acupuncturist, Kirsten worked as an Investment Banker in London and Frankfurt for many years. A traumatic car accident in 2000 led her to come in contact with Worsley Acupuncture™. The tremendous impact that this form of medicine had in her recovery on a physical and emotional level after the accident, inspired her to change career and to follow the Acupuncture path so that she could help others in the same transforming way.

Kirsten is a German national. Before coming to Malaysia she has lived and worked in the UK, Argentina, Chile, France and Germany. She speaks fluent English and German, as well as having a good knowledge of French and Spanish.

Markizah has been in practice as a full-time Classical Osteopath for over 30 years, first in the UK and then in Malaysia. She is Malaysia's most experienced and foremost Osteopath, practising here since 1984.

She graduated from the European School of Osteopathy (ESO) in the UK in 1981 after undertaking a 4-year course. There she studied under many of the leaders in the Classical Osteopathic field such as the late John Wernham, Thomas Dummer, Mervyn Waldman as well as John Upledger who at the time was teaching his first courses of Craniosacral therapy.

After graduation she participated in numerous Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses with John Upledger and others to deepen her knowledge in Craniosacral therapy, making her one of the most experienced professionals in this field.

During the late eighties she gave talks on Osteopathy to the Institute of Medical Research, Kuala Lumpur, the Interfaith Forum Malaysia, the Association of British Women in Malaysia (ABWM), the Kuala Lumpur Speakers' Club as well as the Rotary Clubs in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.

Markizah was a founder-practitioner of the first multi-disciplinary therapy centre in Malaysia, which briefly at the time ran a pilot school of alternative therapy until the British lecturers and practitioners left.

During the nineties Markizah gave talks on Osteopathy to the International Medical College Malaysia (Now International Medical University), the University of Malaya Medical School, and University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical School.

More recently, in 2008 the Ministry of Health Malaysia (Traditional & Complementary Division) appointed Markizah as Chapter Leader of Osteopathy in this country with the task of vetting incoming foreign osteopaths; and in 2009 as member of the Committee for Standards & Criteria with the aim of setting up Osteopathic education in Malaysia.

Markizah regularly returns to the UK to fulfill the statutory CPD study hours and to maintain and upgrade her skills. Over the years she has attended lectures and workshops by numerous eminent Osteopathic figures like Viola Frymann, Susan Turner and Renzo Molinari.

Since 2000 Markizah has been a member of the General Osteopathic Council, UK (GOsC). She was a founder member of the Society of Osteopaths (1981) and the General Council and Register of Osteopaths (GCRO, 1984), which preceded the present statutory GOsC in Britain.

She is a member of the Federation of Complementary & Natural Medical Associations, Malaysia (FCNMAM), the official body for registration of complementary medical practitioners in Malaysia.
